About Montague eBikes

Montagues Beginnings

Montague Corporation, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has a rich history rooted in innovative design and production of bicycles featuring Folding Integrated Technology (F.I.T.). Founded by David Montague in 1987, Montague initially introduced the "BiFrame," incorporating the patented Concentrus system. This system, uniting two frame parts with concentric seat tubes, showcased a commitment to full-size, high-performance bicycles that fold without sacrificing performance.

Supporting the Military

Notably, Montague gained recognition through awards, including Popular Mechanic’s Design & Engineering Award. Their collaboration with BMW resulted in the Official Mountain Bike of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. The company's commitment to innovation extended to military partnerships, leading to the development of the Tactical Electric No Signature (TENS) Mountain bike for the U.S. Marines.

The success of their X-Series bikes and the Paratrooper model, derived from military bike designs, prompted Montague to cater to both professional and civilian markets. Collaborations with General Motors for the HUMMER Tactical Mountain Bike and the introduction of the SwissBikes showcased Montague's versatility in design.

Innovative Leaders

Montague continued to evolve, introducing a new line of rugged mountain bikes in 2007 and, in 2010, launching pavement-oriented 700c folding bikes. The Octagon steering system, released in 2011, allowed riders to adjust handlebar height conveniently. In 2013, Montague made framesets available individually, providing customization options for riders.

The innovative Park&Pedal program launched in 2015 encouraged commuters to combine cycling with other transportation modes. Montague's 2016 re-designed folding bike line featured the DirectConnect folding system and the Eurobike Award-winning RackStand. The company's commitment to convenience and versatility was further emphasized in 2017 with the Rackstand becoming available as an aftermarket component.

Reckless Shipyards chose Montague for its fleet of ebikes due to the brand's unique Folding Integrated Technology, build quality, and a history marked by continuous innovation and collaboration with major brands, making Montague a standout choice for their diverse range of cycling needs.
