Marin 2024 Rift Zone E2 – The Ultimate Trail-Ready E-MTB
The Marin 2024 Rift Zone E2 is designed for trail enthusiasts and adventure seekers who demand performance, agility, and reliability. Built for the most challenging terrains and longest rides, this e-MTB is engineered with innovative technology and superior components to elevate your off-road experience. From its powerful Shimano motor to the robust suspension system, the Rift Zone E2 stands out as a versatile and dynamic electric mountain bike that combines power, precision, and control. Let us dive into what makes the Marin Rift Zone E2 the ultimate trail companion.
Frame: Series 4 Aluminum with MultiTrac Suspension Technology
At the heart of the Rift Zone E2 is the Series 4 Aluminum Frame, which is meticulously engineered for durability and responsiveness. Marin has utilized butted and hydroformed tubes to create a frame that is lightweight yet incredibly strong, ensuring it withstands the most challenging trails without sacrificing agility. This high-end alloy frame features integrated cable routing for a clean, streamlined appearance and reduced maintenance, ensuring the cables are protected from the elements and trail debris.
The MultiTrac Suspension Technology integrated into the frame provides 150mm rear travel, allowing you to absorb impacts and maintain traction on rough and uneven trails. This advanced suspension system keeps the bike balanced and stable, making it the perfect choice for technical ascents and descents. It offers unmatched confidence and control for the rider.
The frame's geometry enhances maneuverability while maintaining stability at high speeds. With a modern, aggressive stance, the Rift Zone E2 feels nimble on tight switchbacks but remains steady when hitting jumps or navigating rocky sections. Whether you are tackling steep climbs or fast descents, this frame is built to handle it all.
Motor: Shimano STEPS EP801 – Power Meets Precision
The Marin Rift Zone E2 is powered by the Shimano STEPS EP801 Drive Unit, which delivers 85Nm of torque and up to 250 watts of power. This motor is known for its smooth delivery, providing an intuitive and natural feel that mirrors a traditional mountain biking experience while giving you the boost you need when it matters most. Designed for challenging terrain, the EP801 motor offers three levels of pedal assist that can be easily adjusted via the handlebar-mounted display, allowing you to control your speed and energy levels on the fly.
The lightweight and compact Shimano EP801 motor keeps the bike’s center of gravity low, enhancing its balance and stability, especially when navigating technical trails. The motor’s advanced heat management system prevents overheating during intense rides, ensuring consistent power output for longer adventures.
With the Shimano EP801’s silent operation, you will enjoy a quieter ride, immersing yourself in nature while tackling even the steepest climbs with ease. Its efficient energy consumption also means you can ride further with less battery drain, making it the perfect choice for long trail sessions.
Battery: Shimano BT-E8036, 630Wh – Extended Range for Epic Rides
The Rift Zone E2 is equipped with the Shimano BT-E8036, 630Wh battery, which provides ample energy for extended rides. This high-capacity battery is integrated seamlessly into the frame's downtube, offering a clean aesthetic and balanced weight distribution. With a range of up to fifty miles (80 km), you can confidently explore longer trails and venture further without worrying about running out of power.
The battery is removable and lockable, allowing easy charging and ensuring security when parked. Its convenient design makes it simple to detach and charge separately, so you can power up wherever it is most convenient—at home, at the trailhead, or on the go. The Shimano system also allows for quick charging, getting you back on the trail in minimal time.
Suspension: Fox 36 Performance Fork and Fox Float DPX2 Shock – Mastering Terrain Control
The Rift Zone E2 boasts a Fox 36 Performance Fork with 160mm travel, offering superior control and stability on rugged trails. The Fox 36 is designed to absorb impacts from rocks, roots, and drops, maintaining traction and keeping the front wheel planted for precise steering. This suspension fork is a trusted choice among trail riders for its responsiveness and versatility, providing the confidence to tackle technical descents and rough terrain.
Complementing the front fork is the Fox Float DPX2 rear shock, which integrates seamlessly with Marin’s MultiTrac Suspension design and offers 150mm of rear travel. This rear shock enhances comfort and traction by soaking up bumps and smoothing the ride. With adjustable compression and rebound settings, the Fox Float DPX2 allows riders to fine-tune their suspension setup based on trail conditions and rider preference, ensuring optimal performance for every ride.
The Fox suspension components deliver a balanced and controlled ride experience, allowing the Rift Zone E2 to glide over obstacles and maintain stability, whether climbing steep inclines or charging downhill.
Drivetrain: Shimano Deore 12-Speed – Smooth Shifting Precision
The Marin Rift Zone E2 has a Shimano Deore 12-speed drivetrain, offering various gears to tackle varying trail conditions. The 12-speed cassette ensures you have the right gear for every situation, whether you need a low gear for steep climbs or a high gear for flat-out speed on descents.
The Shimano Deore system is known for its smooth and reliable shifting performance, even under load. The precision of the shifters allows for seamless transitions between gears, helping you maintain momentum and focus on the trail ahead. This high-performance drivetrain makes the Rift Zone E2 adaptable and versatile, efficiently handling technical and high-speed sections.
Brakes: Shimano MT520 4-Piston Hydraulic Disc Brakes – Powerful Stopping Power
Regarding safety and control, the Rift Zone E2 features Shimano MT520 4-Piston Hydraulic Disc Brakes, offering 203mm rotors for both front and rear. These powerful brakes provide exceptional stopping power, which is crucial for navigating steep descents and technical trail sections. The 4-piston design delivers solid and consistent braking performance, ensuring you can control your speed and stop on a dime, even in wet or muddy conditions.
The hydraulic braking system provides smooth modulation, allowing you to gradually apply the brakes for precise control rather than sudden, jarring stops. This is essential for maintaining stability on challenging trails and ensuring the bike’s performance matches your confidence level.
Wheels and Tires: Marin Aluminum Double Wall and Vee Tire Co. Attack HPL – Grip and Durability
The Rift Zone E2 rides on Marin Aluminum Double Wall rims, built to withstand the demands of trail riding. These rims are paired with Vee Tire Co. Attack HPL 2.5” tires, which provide outstanding grip and traction on various terrains. The comprehensive tire profile ensures stability when cornering and maximizes surface contact, giving you confidence and control over technical trails and loose surfaces.
The tubeless-compatible setup allows you to run lower tire pressures for added grip and a smoother ride, reducing the risk of pinch flats when tackling rocky or rooty trails. This combination of durable rims and high-traction tires makes the Rift Zone E2 a reliable companion for aggressive trail riding.
Ergonomics and Comfort: Marin Mini Riser Handlebar and TranzX Dropper Post
The Marin Rift Zone E2 is designed for rider comfort and performance. The bike features a Marin Mini Riser Alloy Handlebar that provides a comfortable grip and an optimal riding position, ensuring better control and less fatigue during long rides. The handlebar’s ergonomic design promotes an aggressive yet comfortable posture, perfect for tackling tricky trails without compromising comfort.
For additional versatility, the Rift Zone E2 includes a TranzX Dropper Post, allowing you to adjust your saddle height on the fly. This feature is invaluable for mountain biking, as it enables you to lower your center of gravity for descents and technical maneuvers and then quickly raise it back up for efficient pedalling on climbs. The dropper post is easily controlled via a handlebar-mounted remote, giving you complete control without stopping and adjusting.
The Perfect E-MTB for Trail Enthusiasts
The Marin 2024 Rift Zone E2 is more than just a mountain bike; it is a powerful, all-terrain e-MTB designed to elevate your riding experience. Every component is optimized for performance, comfort, and control, from its robust Series 4 Aluminum Frame and Shimano STEPS EP801 motor to its Fox suspension and Shimano drivetrain.
