The Marin 2024 Rift Zone E1 is the perfect electric mountain bike for riders seeking adventure and demanding versatility on the trails. This e-MTB is built to provide an agile and controlled riding experience while offering the power and precision needed to conquer varied terrains. With advanced suspension, a reliable drivetrain, and a powerful motor, the Rift Zone E1 stands out as an all-around trail performer that strikes the ideal balance between agility, power, and comfort. Let us explore the details that make this bike an exceptional trail partner.
Frame: Series 4 Aluminum with MultiTrac Suspension Technology
The foundation of the Rift Zone E1 is its Series 4 Aluminum Frame, designed for lightweight performance and durability. Marin’s engineering expertise is evident in the frame’s construction, which features butted and hydroformed tubing that maximizes strength while keeping the weight low. This advanced aluminum frame is built to withstand the demands of aggressive trail riding while maintaining a responsive and agile feel.
The core of the frame’s design is the MultiTrac Suspension Technology, which delivers 140mm of rear travel. This technology enhances traction, absorbs bumps, and controls challenging terrain. The suspension system keeps the rear wheel firmly planted, providing a balanced ride that handles everything from technical climbs to steep descents with precision and stability.
The Rift Zone E1’s geometry is tailored to give riders a confident and comfortable stance, allowing for quick and efficient handling. Whether navigating switchbacks or charging down rock gardens, the frame’s balanced design ensures a responsive and controlled experience.
Motor: Shimano STEPS EP6 – Efficient Power and Seamless Control
The Marin Rift Zone E1 is powered by the Shimano STEPS EP6 Drive Unit, offering 250 watts and up to 85Nm of torque. This motor provides a smooth and responsive pedal-assist experience, perfect for riders who want that extra boost on climbs without compromising the feel of a traditional mountain bike. The EP6 motor delivers power efficiently and intuitively, adapting to your pedalling input to give you the right amount of assistance when needed most.
With multiple levels of assistance, the Shimano EP6 allows you to fine-tune your ride based on trail conditions and battery management. Whether you are looking for a mild boost to extend your range or full power for steep ascents, the EP6 ensures a seamless transition between assist modes, maintaining a natural riding feel.
The motor’s compact and lightweight nature integrates beautifully with the bike’s overall design, ensuring that the bike remains balanced and maneuverable on trails. The low center of gravity enhances stability, making technical sections and descents more manageable.
Battery: Shimano BT-E8035, 504Wh – Power for the Long Haul
To complement the Shimano EP6 motor, the Rift Zone E1 has a Shimano BT-E8035, 504Wh battery. This high-capacity battery is seamlessly integrated into the frame and downtube, maintaining a clean aesthetic and optimal weight distribution. With a range of up to sixty-two miles (100 km), this battery allows for long trail rides without worrying about running out of power.
The battery is removable and can be securely locked to the frame, providing peace of mind when parking the bike in public areas. The easy-to-remove design makes charging at home or on the go convenient, while the fast-charging capability ensures you are back on the trail in no time. The efficient energy management of the Shimano system ensures you get the most out of every charge, perfect for long trail adventures.
Suspension: RockShox Recon RL Fork – Precision Control and Smooth Rides
The front of the Rift Zone E1 features a RockShox Recon RL Fork with 140mm travel, designed to handle rugged trails and unpredictable terrain efficiently. The fork’s Boost axle provides additional stiffness, ensuring precise steering and control even during aggressive riding. The adjustable compression and rebound settings allow riders to fine-tune their suspension, adapting to different trail conditions and personal riding preferences.
Combining the Recon RL Fork with the MultiTrac rear suspension delivers a smooth and controlled ride, minimizing impacts from roots, rocks, and drops. Whether you are navigating tight turns or taking on rough descents, the suspension system provides the confidence you need to push your limits.
Drivetrain: Shimano Deore 11-Speed – Reliable Shifting for Every Trail Condition
The Marin Rift Zone E1 is equipped with a Shimano Deore 11-speed drivetrain, which provides a versatile gear range to tackle various trail scenarios. The 11-speed cassette ensures you have the right gear for everything from steep climbs to fast descents, offering a wide ratio that maximizes pedalling efficiency.
The Shimano Deore system is renowned for its smooth, precise shifting, even under load. The reliable shifters allow quick gear changes, helping you maintain momentum and power through technical sections without hesitation. This high-quality drivetrain is essential for a dynamic trail experience, allowing you to ride through varied terrains easily.
Brakes: Tektro Orion Hydraulic Disc Brakes – Consistent and Powerful Stopping Power
Safety and control are paramount when riding on technical trails, and the Rift Zone E1 delivers Tektro Orion Hydraulic Disc Brakes. These powerful brakes feature 180mm rotors, providing consistent stopping power and control regardless of trail conditions. The hydraulic system ensures smooth modulation, allowing riders to adjust braking intensity accurately, whether tackling steep descents or navigating tight corners.
These brakes provide peace of mind by quickly bringing the bike to a halt, ensuring that you can control your speed confidently, especially on challenging downhill sections. The reliability and power of the Tektro Orion system make it an ideal choice for aggressive trail riding.
Wheels and Tires: Marin Aluminum Double Wall and Vee Tire Co. Flow Snap – Maximum Traction and Durability
The Rift Zone E1 is fitted with Marin Aluminum Double Wall rims, designed to handle the abuse of trail riding while remaining lightweight. These robust rims are paired with Vee Tire Co. Flow Snap 2.35” tires, which provide excellent grip and traction across varied trail surfaces. The aggressive tread pattern of the Flow Snap tires ensures stability and confidence when navigating loose dirt, rocks, or roots.
The tubeless-ready setup allows for lower tire pressure, improving traction and providing a smoother ride. This setup also reduces the risk of pinch flats, making the Rift Zone E1 a reliable partner for all-day trail adventures. The wide tire profile enhances stability and control, allowing riders to tackle technical terrain confidently.
Ergonomics and Comfort: Marin Mini Riser Handlebar and TranzX Dropper Post
The Marin Mini Riser Handlebar offers a comfortable and ergonomic grip, promoting an optimal riding position for tackling long trail sessions. The handlebar’s design allows for precise control and maneuverability, ensuring the rider remains balanced and confident during technical sections.
The TranzX Dropper Post is an essential feature for modern trail riding. It allows for on-the-fly adjustments to saddle height. Riders can lower the saddle when descending or navigating technical terrain and quickly return it to full height for efficient pedalling on climbs. The handlebar-mounted remote ensures easy and seamless operation, enhancing the bike’s versatility and performance.

The Marin 2024 Rift Zone E1 is engineered to offer a blend of power, precision, and control, making it an excellent choice for trail riders seeking versatility and performance. The warranty period offered by Marin does not guarantee that the bicycle will last forever, or for the life span of the original purchaser. Bicycles should be inspected regularly by an authorized Marin dealer, or qualified bicycle technician to identify any issues, which could lead to a failure.
