Marin Sausalito ST E1 - The Ultimate Urban E-Bike

The Marin Sausalito ST E1 is a versatile, high-performance electric bike designed to seamlessly navigate the demands of urban commuting, leisure rides, and multi-surface exploring. Built with top-tier components and a powerful Shimano STEPS motor, the Sausalito ST E1 offers both convenience and power, making it the perfect companion for daily commutes or weekend adventures. Let us take a closer look at what makes this e-bike unique.

Frame: Series 3 Aluminum Butted & Formed 6061

The foundation of the Sausalito ST E1 lies in its Series 3 Butted and Formed 6061 Aluminum Frame. This advanced frame design perfectly balances strength and weight, making the bike durable yet lightweight for nimble handling in an urban environment. The low-step design makes mounting and dismounting effortless, particularly useful when riding with bags or on stop-and-go city commutes. Marin has also incorporated forged motor mounts and hydroformed downtube battery mounts, making the frame sleek and efficient by integrating the key components smoothly. The internal housing for the wires keeps the bike looking neat and streamlined, protecting the cables from the elements, and giving the bike a clean aesthetic. With the kickstand, rack, and fender mounts, the Sausalito ST E1 is highly customizable for various needs, whether commuting to work or enjoying a leisurely weekend ride.

Motor: Shimano STEPS E5000 Drive Unit, 250W, 40Nm Torque

At the heart of the Sausalito ST E1 is the Shimano STEPS E5000 Drive Unit—a lightweight and efficient motor that provides 250 watts of power with 40Nm of torque. This motor is designed to give riders the ideal pedal assistance, making it easier to tackle steep hills or long distances without sweat. Class 1 electric assist ensures that the Sausalito can reach speeds of up to 20mph (32km/h), making it a legal and safe choice for most urban environments.

The Shimano STEPS E5000 system is known for its whisper-quiet operation and smooth power delivery, offering a pleasant and stress-free riding experience. This motor integrates seamlessly into the Sausalito ST E1’s frame, giving you the power to flatten hills and extend your range with minimal effort, all while maintaining a natural feel to the pedaling experience.

Battery: Shimano BT8014, 418Wh - Long-Lasting Power

The motor is powered by a Shimano BT8014 418Wh Battery, which provides riders with a range of 25 to 87 miles (40 to 140km), depending on rider weight, terrain, and the level of assistance used. This long-lasting battery ensures you can take extended trips or multiple commutes simultaneously. With an estimated charging time of 4 hours, charging at home, at work, or while grabbing a coffee during your day is easy.

The battery is removable, meaning you can easily carry it inside for charging. It locks securely to the frame with a key for theft protection. Its positioning in the downtube allows for a low center of gravity, significantly improving the bike’s overall handling and stability on the road.

Drivetrain: Shimano Deore 10-Speed Transmission

The Shimano Deore 10-speed drivetrain gives the Sausalito ST E1 the versatility needed to manage different terrains and rider preferences. With an 11-46T cassette, you have a wide range of gears at your disposal for everything from fast flat stretches to steep hills. Whether you are accelerating off the line at a green light or tackling an incline, the precise shifting and broad range of gears ensure you are always in control and riding efficiently.

This drivetrain delivers performance and is exceptionally durable. It is paired with a Shimano crankset and a 44T steel chainring. It is built to withstand the demands of urban riding while minimizing maintenance needs.

Brakes: Tektro HD-M275 Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Regarding safety, the Tektro HD-M275 Hydraulic Disc Brakes deliver exceptional stopping power in all weather conditions. The front and rear brakes feature 180mm rotors, providing consistent and reliable braking performance while navigating busy streets or descending steep paths. Hydraulic disc brakes are a key feature for urban e-bikes, as they offer better modulation and quicker stopping response, giving riders peace of mind in demanding environments.

Suspension Fork: Steel Moto Blade

The Steel Moto Blade, the front suspension fork, is another standout feature of the Sausalito ST E1. Designed specifically for disc brakes, the fork offers excellent front-end stability, smoothing out bumps and vibrations on uneven surfaces. Whether you are crossing cobblestones or pothole-ridden streets, the fork’s suspension capabilities provide a more comfortable and controlled ride, minimizing fatigue and making long rides much more enjoyable.

Wheels and Tires: WTB Horizon 650B x 47mm

The Sausalito ST E1 rolls on 650B wheels paired with WTB Horizon 47mm wide tires, providing the perfect blend of speed and comfort. These wider tires offer excellent grip and traction, making the bike ideal for both smooth roads and more challenging urban terrain. Their larger volume helps to absorb shocks and vibrations from the road, giving you a smoother ride. The tires are also designed to be puncture-resistant, reducing the risk of flats and allowing you to ride with confidence on any surface.

Comfort and Ergonomics: Marin City Plush Saddle & Marin Mini Riser Alloy Handlebars

Riding comfort is a top priority on the Marin Sausalito ST E1, with key components designed to reduce fatigue and enhance rider experience. The Marin City Plush Saddle offers ample cushioning and support for longer rides, while the Mini Riser Alloy Handlebars ensure an upright and ergonomic riding position. This setup reduces strain on your back and wrists, allowing you to enjoy a more relaxed ride whether you are commuting or exploring the city. Combined with the Marin County Grips, the Sausalito ST E1 is built for comfort over long distances and varying terrain.

Customization: Mounts for Racks, Fenders, and More

The Sausalito ST E1 is highly customizable, with integrated mounts for racks, fenders, and a kickstand. This allows riders to personalize the bike to suit their needs, whether for carrying groceries, adding weather protection, or simply making it more commuter friendly. This versatility ensures the bike can adapt to various riding scenarios, from quick trips around town to extended tours.

Why Choose the Marin Sausalito ST E1?

Useful Product Life

Bicycles have an unquantifiable useful product life. The useful life span of a bicycle is affected by riding style, riding conditions, frame material and construction, and other factors. The warranty period offered by Marin does not guarantee that the bicycle will last forever, or for the life span of the original purchaser. Bicycles should be inspected regularly by an authorized Marin dealer, or qualified bicycle technician to identify any issues, which could lead to a failure. Whether a failed frame will be covered by this warranty, or not, will be determined solely by Marin Bikes, based on an evaluation of the failure, useful life, and any other relevant factors.

To Obtain Warranty Service: In order to exercise your rights under this limited warranty, the complete bicycle must be presented to an authorized Marin dealer for inspection, together with a receipt, bill of sale and other appropriate written proof of purchase, which identifies the bicycle by serial number. Any labor, postage, insurance, or shipping costs incurred in sending your product for service are the responsibility of the owner. Marin will not be responsible for products lost or damaged in shipping.

Warranty Determination: Once received by Marin or Authorized Marin Warranty Center, the product will be inspected to determine if it is covered by the Marin warranty. Only Marin or an Authorized Marin Warranty Center may determine if a product is warrantable. If the product is not covered under warranty, all replacement, repair, labor, and shipping costs are responsibility of the customer. Marin cannot return un-repairable unwarranted products to the consumer if they are unsafe to use in their unrepaired condition.

At no time may any retailer or distributor make representations of what is covered or not covered under this warranty without express written permission from Marin. Should a retailer or distributor replace product before consulting Marin, it is at the sole discretion of the retailer or distributor, and may not be reimbursed by Marin. When a product or part is exchanged, any replacement item becomes property of the customer and the returned product becomes the property of Marin, which may destroy it.
